Photo of Jobee the artist

Hi there my name is Joanne (Jobee) and I live in Christchurch, New Zealand.

I have been off work for a while now due to an injury which has changed my life forever. I was diagnosed with CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome information page) and this forced me to look at what I was doing. I decided to try my hand at painting as I needed to focus on something new. I had never painted before but thought it might be something I could try.

In March 2007 I thought it would be a good idea to take some lessons, but I did not want to make a fool of myself if I could not even draw a straight line. I went and brought some paints and a couple of canvases and set to work. I actually surprised myself, I did not care how they turned out. I was enjoying myself and that was the most important thing. After doing a few paintings a neighbour introduced me to a couple of local artists who run the Birchfield Gallery, and that is when I started taking some lessons. It was a bit like when you are reading a book and loose all track of time, that is what painting is like for me. A friend of mine Julian Bethell helped me set up my first home page so I could get some feedback on my paintings. I started doing a web design course through the Open Polytechnic, I completed one paper then had to put it on hold due to frequent hospital admissions.

Then on May 27th 2009 I had a left below knee amputation at Southern Cross Hospital. It was a big decision to make but I felt there was no alternative. I had plenty of time to work through all the emotions, the positive and negative aspects of undertaking this major surgery. For me it was the only way to move forward after having nearly six years of dealing with constant pain, infections, and all that goes with that. Which brings me to today, whereI am still struggling to get used to my artificle limb, with pain being my constant companion I have had to learn to do things differenly, by pacing myself and not beating myself up for not doing the things I cant do.

I had been working part time as a computer tutor, at a day base for disabled adults which closed at the end of 2014. My new venture for 2015 is to start up a private computer tutoring business, specialising in helping the more mature students to learn how to use computers Ipads or tablets working at their pace, with individual programs based on their needs. Here is a link to Jobee the Computer Tutor's Website take a look.

Please take a look around see what you think. I would really appreciate any comments, good or bad that you may have about any of my work.

If by any chance you are interested in purchasing any of these works flick me an email at If you would like me to paint something and you have a photo, again just send me an email, I am sure I will be able to help.
Hope you enjoy your visit.
